evaluation
1. What skills have you developed through this module and how effectively do you think you have applied them?
throughout this module i feel i've improved with development work. with previous modules i would find it difficult to do any development at all and be tempted to skip to the end resolution. I make myself buy an A3 sketchbook for every new module which really helps my design process. Looking back through the briefs in this module I also feel as if i've relied more on photoshop and illustrator more than before (although I'm still very keen to develop this further) this is something that i would like to expand upon with next years briefs.
2. What approaches to/methods of research have you developed and how have they informed your design development process?
This module has really been based around audience, so for me i felt i needed to be asking people what they wanted. Naturally the most efficent way of recording these results is a survey of sorts. At first i was adamant i wouldn't make anyone do it because 1) i find them annoying and 2)i always think im right. But i gave in in the end and am all the better for it. The survey method of research has really beneffitted a numerous amount of my projects. Also as I mentioned the use of sketchbooks had helped me while doing development work. I find them easier than worksheets and its far easier to keep organised and on top of evertything if it's all stuck down and in order.
3. What strengths can you identify in your work and how have/will you capitalise on these?
As always, illustration is what i love and what im good at, and I seem to be improving by every brief. For the speaking from experience brief i dabbled with collages and photoshop to layer some of my own illustrations with shapes and patterns i had found. I enjoyed this process and would like to take the digitalisation of my work further and progress with illustrator into the second year. I also learnt of my fondness for a3 sketchbook.s I now find it hard to start a brief without one, it's my starting point. I find it essential to work from because it keeps everything organised, which is invaluable.
4. What weaknesses can you identify in your work and how will you address these more fully?
The only thing i can think that i'd like to see a major improvement on is photography. I feel far more at ease with film than digital but i need to overcome that. As i love making books, i need to be able to learn how to photograph them properly in the right environment so i can show them at their best. Going into the second year it will be essential that i learn how to do this, to get that proffessional finish.
I found type and grid almost impossible, in fact completley impossible. I just couln't focus. It was terrible. I've never felt so bad at anything in my life ever. I don't know why, I just couldnt do it no matter how hard i tried. So i definatley need to advance in that for next year as i realise the knoweledge and skill ganied from it is important.
5. Identify five things that you will do differently next time and what do you expect to gain from doing these?
1 - blog more - provide myself with an on going analysis of what im doing
2 - look at other artists more - to become aware of what others are doing to benefit my work
3 - use different mediums paint papers etc to give my work a different quality
4 - generally, produce more work.-
5 - dont be so relaxed-
6.How would you grade yourself on the following areas:
Attendance - 4
Punctuality - 3
Motivation - 5
Commitment -5
Quantity of work produced - 3
Quality of work produced - 4
Contribution to the group - 3
yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay im so excited about being a second year yayayayayyayaaaa
